  NEXT TRIP:
Aug 30th I fished on the "Fishing Poles" and we had a very slow evening. We ended the night just 1 for 1 with a 8 lb king. It came on a large flasher and fly on a copper in 75 FOW. We were all over 60 - 130 FOW, but nothing was happening.
Aug. 29 I heard of a good report from Port Sheldon south to Holland around 120 FOW. In a late morning trip the boat brought in 11 fish.
  Gold Coast Fishing Tourni - Aug 28th - 616-786-9314
Aug. 28 Well, the Eldean Shipyard Fishing Team had a respectable finish int the Gold Cost Tourni. We were 14th place out of about 70 boats. We ended 7 of 12, all kings, and about 45 total pouns. We started around 75 FOW and got a couple to start. We circled and spiralled out deeper picking up fish along the way, but never going deeper than 150. The fish never seemed to be in the same spot twice as we circled about. Flies on dipsies were the best, followed by spoons on lead lines. Downriggers and j-plugs didn't do anything.

Aug. 27

Jim and I fished at night from 6:30 to 9:00 and went 2 for 2, one small king and one fat 8 pound Coho. One spoon and one j-plug went in the 80 - 90 FOW range.
Aug. 21 Double Skunk!! Both My boat and Jim's boat didn't bring in a fish. I was South of Holland and Jim was North of Holland. Could someone tell me where the fish are?
Aug. 8th The Big Red Classic, Day 2. The tournament was cancelled as the boats began to crowd the Channel. We decided to go out anyway, but didn't make it very long as two of the crew got sea-sick.
Aug. 7 The Big Red Classic, Day 1. Not much to show for the Eldean Shipyard Fishing Team. We ended up 2 for 6, with two 5 lb kings around 90 FOW. The boats that I know seemed to be having slow morning with 4 or less fish. There were a few boats though that caught their 10 fish limit. Most of the action was right away with things slowing down after 8:30.
July 26th Fished Monday evening, slow start and ended up going 4 for 6 with two mature kings, one laker and a smaller king. Great night to be on the water with light wind and full moon to end the night. Flies worked best with one fish being taken on a spoon. Best fishing in 80 to 100 FOW. Still good cold water about 60 feet down once you get out past 80 FOW. Capt Jim - The Fishing Poles
July 23 & 24 We called off our tournament "Practice" on the 23rd as the waves were 4-6 feet in the morning. Unfortunately the tournament was also cancelled on the 24th because of lighting and thunder storms. We'll have to wait til next year. Remember to sign up and tell your friends.

July 21 A couple of customers reported good fishing this morning. One caught 5 around 80-100 FOW and the other was a bit deeper and caught 7. It was a little bouncy.
July 20 Report from the "Fishing Poles:" Fished Tuesday PM. Wind was not bad but was a bit bumpy on the water. Went 3 for 7, one laker and two kings with landed fish coming early in the evening. Fish came on blues, greens black and white flies and spoons. Covered 55 to 105 FOW with fish marked throughout and most bites in the 80's and 90's. Plenty of cold water down there. Capt. Jim - The fishing poles
July 17 Capt Dick (C-50) - The Corner Office: Let the lake lay down tonight and pushed off for a 5:00-11:00pm troll going 4 for 6, all kings, dropping a nice 12#-ish king at the back of the boat that would have made limit tonight. Brad's cut bait plug packed with tuna run on a full reel of copper down the shoot went 2 for 4 bagging a pair of 6-8 kings in 125 FOW (N48o50') on a North troll. I ran this for the first time and agree it is the real deal. Arron at Lakeshore Outfitters has them in stock, suggest the watermelon. Boat traffic was heavy inside so I pushed out to 154 FOW where I marked fish earlier to fish out of the pack for the evening. Picked up a 12# king on a silver rattle J run off a torpedo diver about 65' down pushed out on a board, same as Wednesday night. At sunset there was plenty of marks at 20' so I put out a 4 color lead on the starboard board and picked up the stud of the night on a dark blue/yellow belly/yellow ladder back hand painted tournament rattle J weighing in at 21#. The king is on brine as will be smoked on Sunday.
July 16 Full boat this morning as we set lines at 6:30 with Ryan, Kori, Doug, & AQ aboard. It was a little rough out and we had a seasick toddler aboard so we called it quits early at 9:15. It was a quick start. I only had the first rigger down with a slider, when the slider went and we took a nice 8 lb king in 85 FOW on a silver & green spoon with an orange back. Finally we got some more lines in and we got a double with both dipsy, fish catcher & fly combos taking a king (one was 12 lbs). So by 7 we were 3 for 3. Unfortunately that was as good as we would do, finishing 3 for 8 on the morning. I had one downrigger clip not release and the line broke when the fish hit it. Almost all the action was on an East troll.
July 14 Capt. Dick (C-50) on Corner Office went 3 for 3 in 140 FOW fishing solo tonight. Silver J on a torpedo diver about 60' down off a board took a 14# king. A 7# king came off the other side on a home made glow spoon and a gratuitous 3#er came on a reel in. Fishing was slow but some big fish were being taken from in shallow out to 170FOW. Nice flat lake tonight.
July 13
July 10 Capt. Dick (C-50) on The Corner Office pushed out of Lake Mac about 5:00pm for the evening bite & pulled lines by 9:30pm. Went 6 for 10, all kings, finding most of the action in 135-140 FOW, south the most productive troll. 300' of copper down the chute and secret weapon 60' down with std & mag silver crinkle / green ladder back carried the evening. Silver J on a full core set on a Church board took a nice 12# king. One dipsey hit but otherwise quiet. Three double hits for the evening which have been a rare to come by. Pair of 12# kings to go with the other 4 filled the box.
July 10 1 for 1. I had a few hours Saturday afternoon so I gave it a try. I fished from 1:30 to 4:30, the worst time to fish, I know. Anyway, a nice 12 lb king around 110 FOW on a blue mirage fly and blue spindoctor.
July 5 1 for 6. Dave couldn't keep them on the line as we fished from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. We marked a ton of fish, mostley between 100-120, allthough they looked like they were all stacked up in 70 FOW at sunset, but those fish weren't biting.
July 2 Well, the Rhino marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite in 80-145 FOW. Fish were consistantly marked around 60 feet down. We ended 1 for 3, boating a nice 8 lb king. The fish were looking for something particular. We changed up baits and finally got a white fishcatcher with a green crinkle and mirage fly (homemade) to work. After taking in the king, the same setup also had a huge fish on that broke the fly off. This was a 50 lb flurocarbon leader too! Captain Jim was out his boat and had a bit more success taking in 2 Lake Trout and at least 3 kings around 110-125 FOW.
July 2 The fishing has started to pick up now that the fish have turned the page on their calenders. I've heard a lot good reports coming out of 80 - 130 FOW. I'll be heading out toninght to give it a try. More details in the morning.
June 20 Happy Father's Day! Father's Day means Dads get to go fishing. There were a lot of Dads out fishing today as we had boats all around us. Jim and I fished from 6:30 to 9:30 AM and ended 3 of 5. All three fish were 8 - 12 lb kings. Two came on a yellow and green pro-king spoon and the other on a green and black. All three on the down rigger, 60 and 70 down. Two hits that were gone quickly were on the leadline. The dipsy's were quiet. We were between 80 & 150 FOW and we marked fish consistantly between 50 and 70 feet deep, but we could get them to bite.
June 7 Report from the "Fishing Poles:" Went out 6/7 in the evening, windy and rough but calmed towards dusk. Put six in the boat, lost several others. All two and three year old kings. Three on flies/dipsey's and three on spoons. Blues, greens and slivers worked best 50 to 70 feet down. Fished 80 to 120 FOW with best action right around 100 feet. Nothing going on lead lines. Capt. Jim.
May 28 Well the fishing is a little slow and scattered, but they are still biting. Eric and Mark joined me on Rhino and we fished from 6:15 to 9:45 in 160 to 230 FOW. Bites came on most rods and we ended 5 of 6, all Kings. 2 were 10 lbs and the others were small and released. It was calm and very quiet for the start of the Holiday weekend. We only saw 4 other boats fishing. Get out there. Its fun.
May 26 Kris, Ryan, & I went out and fished from 6-9 pm. It was another great night on the lake; no waves and a light breeze to keep most the flies away. The fishing seems to have slowed a little, not just because we didn't catch many, but friends and radio reports have also confirmed it. We ended 3 of 5, all kings and they were pretty small. We fished mostly 160-200 FOW and didn't mark many fish either.
May 23 Well I finally launched the boat and made it out fishing from 6-9pm. My family crew backed out at the last minute to watch the finale of Lost, so I made it a solo trip. It was beautiful on the water, hot, sunny, and no waves. I had a tip to go out deep, so I spent most of my time around 200 feet of water and got a few things to go. As the night went on I headed towards the lighthouse and with the sun going down it just got crazy. I ended the night going 8 for 10, 7 kings and 1 coho. Sinse this was my first trip out, it was inevitable that I would forget something. Last year I think it was the net, this year it was the cooler. After I put 3 kings in the bag (garbage bag), I was on the catch and release program. Its kind of a weird feeling releasing a nice 12 pound king. Anyway, a half yellow-half green pro king went 3 for 4 on a slider. A silver and black spoon with a little purple went 2 for 3 on the lead core. Flies on a dipsy took 2.

May 22

"A little slow" was the evening report from Captain Jim. They did find some action between 170 and 210 FOW. Purples spoons were working well as well a cryptonite fly and they ended 6 for 9.
May 15 I finally made it fishing. I fished with Jim & Tony aboard the Fishing Poles. We fished from 6-9pm, mostly in 100-120 FOW. We ended 10 of 16 and only caught Kings - several between 10-15 lbs. The lead lines were quiet all night and most action was on dipsy and flies with spoons getting a few fish on the downriggers. We ducked in a bit shallower as the sun was setting and picked up a tripple in 85 FOW. Blues & Green flies, green spoons, & a White, Black, with red spoon took 2.
May 10 Report from the Big Smakey Sportfishing Team: In the morning, 10 for 11 between 140-200 FOW. West troll was best. Mixed bag 1 Coho, 1 Steelhead, 1 Brown Trout, 7 kings. 3 color and 5 color worked well. Ran all colors, everything took a bite. Best was either a DW michael jackson or DW bumblee bee.
